Once again, approximation rules in most of these songs, scattering brief playing errors and elusive hesitations along (I hope) pretty nice piano ritornellos.
In my defense, I have to explain the very peculiar circumstances of creation of this album - which was not supposed to become an album.
At the time, I was working on a project entitled Montreuil-Nation, which was an ode to the area of Paris where I was working - a popular and living neighborood I liked a lot.
The purpose of this album was to mix songs composed for acoustic instruments (accordion, guitar, contrabass, violin, flute...) and songs performed on a piano solo. Yann Tiersen-like, to be honest.
During summer 2002, I kept an eye on my brother's flat who left for holidays. He had a piano which was equipped with a connection allowing to plug it into a computer.
So I did. On the 4th of August, I spent the afternoon sitting at the piano and recording songs. I had practised some of them on the old family piano, and improvised the others over time.
I never finished Montreuil-Nation. I jumped into other quite opposite projects and gave up.
In 2004, I decided to publish the piano songs. All together they told their own story. The story of a special afernoon of a ordinary summer, alone with a piano.
