a few words about...

Jean-Michel Jarre is one of my musical masters. He is the first responsible for my wish to play music, especially synthesizers.

Everything started in 1990. I listened live on radio his amazing show in Paris La Défense, wondering what was these outstanding sounds and melodies which went so beautifully and mysteriously together.

I had my first keyboard for Christmas the same year (a very amateurish four-note polyphony Casio) and learnt to play all by myself, mainly by playing again and again Jarre's music.

In 1997, he published Oxygene 7-13, a sequel to his famous 1976 debut album Oxygene. At the time I was a bit disappointing by the result, probably because I was waiting for the same miracle which couldn't happen twice.

As a very conceited reaction, I decided to write my very own JMJ album. Here come these Variations Synthétiques (Synthetic Variations of course). "Variations", as for a personal work on a known material.

Obviously, the result is not jarresque at all. First because my keyboard and technical abilities are very far from Jarre's. Then because only JMJ can write proper JMJ's music, and no one else. This is the way of the greatest artists.

Nevertheless, I'm still quite happy with this album, which is fun and uninhibited in a strange way. My spirit was free of any reference, I just played for music and it's been a great experience.

So this is another album I should remake as a Replay Project to remove its weaknesses (and maybe create new ones)... We'll see !
